Dive W.I.P. by Adoradora Dive W.I.P. by Adoradora
Still breathing. Here's a something. Tried to tint it in Photoshop, but it looked bloody awful, so it's back to monochrome for now. Also drew a background which made it more apparent that they were underwater, but ended up painting over it. Anyhow, enjoy the weird fruits of my evening of quiet failure.

These folks may or may not be turning up in a comic soon. That thing on the gentleman's face is a not-terribly-well-drawn prosthetic nose.

*EDIT*: Played around with it in Photoshop again. The blur effect looks cheesy as hell here, but hopefully it mitigates the general awfulness of the background. I think I could get used to the colour overlay thing, though -- nifty little tool, that.

I really like it how fluid it all looks. And I think that the black background gives the picture a `deep`feeling.

Personally, I don't think this mixes well with Photoshop effects. It would look great as a strictly traditional drawing. Great work!

I'm definitely in agreement with you there. This was the first substantial thing I attempted to colour (or at least tint) digitally, and I just kinda wanted to try everything out. Then I accidentally went and flattened the dang thing, so I guess I'm stuck with it as it is.

The coloring and everything is great, and your skill as an artist is evident. Its just I think the blur doesn't mix well. The color overlays are fine. I use color overlays a ton. They make everything easier. (Gradient maps ftw!) I'm not saying stay away from digital elements, but I would suggest sparing use of effects (like blurs, glows, etc) with a traditionally drawn image. Still though, this is a fantastic image, and deserves all the praise it gets.

The monochrome really works and gives it a film noir touch. Love prosthetic noses! Looking forward to the comic if you make it.

Thank you! I am actually on the lower right now, down in New Orleans. It seemed like as good a place as any to set up shop, hurricanes notwithstanding (speaking of which, how did you fare during Sandy?).

God bless you. You are a rolling stone. How does it compare to your previous geography?

I was pretty much spared the hurricane. I even had the uncommon foresight to fill my car's gas tank the night before it hit, so the gas shortage didn't effect me. Nowadays I'm trying to be more optimistic though my Catholic upbringing seems to instinctively draw my eyes to life's sweater pills. ;)

It's much warmer, flatter and friendlier, so no complaints here! Got a bit depressed in San Fran, and I tend to get itchy feet when I'm in a funk. Hopped on my bicycle and pedaled for a few months, got to the Virginia coast and decided to head south for winter. So here I am.

Glad Sandy didn't give you too much of a battering. Probably wise to be a bit pessimistic, all things considered -- an optimist probably wouldn't have bothered to fill the gas tank, after all ;) Speaking of life's sweater pills, I think a Jewish upbringing must give a person almost as good an eye for them as a Catholic one...

I guess pessimism is akin to expectations and standards. And I believe those are wise traits to have.
